Tackle

Rods

To endure the Patagonia’s diverse weather conditions, we recommend our clients use mid fast action, high-modulus graphite rods; 5 to 7 weight rods are preferred. For anglers interested in fishing smaller streams and creeks, 4 weights are suggested. If the idea of catching trophy King Salmon attracts your attention, we recommend you bring 8-10 weight rods.

Reels

At 45° South, we find that your reels should not only match your rod weight, but also have a quality drag system for our wild trout. If you plan on chasing Kings, then you will definitely need good 8-10 weight reels. Spools are optional, but recommended for shooting heads with heavier weight rods.

Lines

We prefer you use weight-forward lines matching your rod weight, or overloaded by one weight for casting in the wind.130 grain and 200 grain shooting heads are optional, but suggested for chasing larger fish on streamers. If still water fishing is your cup of tea, then bring spools with full intermediate sinking lines or intermediate heads.
